Son bapt\u00eame est essentiellement un passage dans la mort et la r\u00e9surrection, comme le sera, \u00e0 sa suite, notre propre bapt\u00eame, ainsi que l&rsquo;explique saint Paul : \u00ab\u00a0Nous avons donc \u00e9t\u00e9 ensevelis avec lui dans la mort par le bapt\u00eame, afin que, comme Christ est ressuscit\u00e9 d&rsquo;entre les morts par la gloire du P\u00e8re, de m\u00eame nous aussi nous marchions en nouveaut\u00e9 de vie \u00a0\u00bb (Rom. 6\/4). De plus, l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e du Christ dans le Jourdain a d\u00e9clench\u00e9 une v\u00e9ritable Pentec\u00f4te personnelle, la premi\u00e8re manifestation du Dieu trinitaire.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Dans ton bapt\u00eame au Jourdain, Seigneur, s&rsquo;est manifest\u00e9e l&rsquo;adoration de la Trinit\u00e9&#8230; \u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>On peut faire, de l&rsquo;ic\u00f4ne, d&rsquo;abord une lecture verticale : la d\u00e9chirure du ciel, toujours en arc de cercle, annonce le mouvement th\u00e9ophanique, la pr\u00e9sence du P\u00e8re qui d\u00e9signe le Fils (\u00ab\u00a0Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aim\u00e9 en qui j&rsquo;ai mis toute mon affection\u00a0\u00bb, Mat. 3\/18), et laisse filtrer le triple rayon, avec la colombe \u00e0 mi-course, porteuse de l&rsquo;amour du P\u00e8re envers le Fils, comme de l&rsquo;amour du Fils envers le P\u00e8re. La colombe nous reporte au d\u00e9but de la Gen\u00e8se, o\u00f9 l&rsquo;Esprit se mouvait sur les eaux \u00e0 l&rsquo;aube de la cr\u00e9ation, tout comme ici, elle descend \u00e0 l&rsquo;aube de la cr\u00e9ation d&rsquo;une humanit\u00e9 nouvelle.<\/p>\n<p>Le bapt\u00eame a des r\u00e9percussions cosmiques : \u00a0\u00bb Le Christ est baptis\u00e9 ; il sort de l&rsquo;eau, et avec lui il rel\u00e8ve le monde \u00a0\u00bb (hymne liturgique). Ce jour-l\u00e0, se fait dans l&rsquo;Eglise la grande b\u00e9n\u00e9diction des eaux : mer, rivi\u00e8res, lacs, sans parler de l&rsquo;eau que les fid\u00e8les emporteront chez eux pour la consommer \u00e0 des occasions particuli\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p>Une lecture horizontale de l&rsquo;ic\u00f4ne est \u00e9galement possible. Elle part de la t\u00eate de saint Jean, qui r\u00e9sume \u00e0 lui seul la pr\u00e9sence de l&rsquo;humanit\u00e9. Le \u00a0\u00bb dernier des proph\u00e8tes \u00a0\u00bb dut se faire violence (Mat. 3\/14) pour accepter de baptiser celui dont il n&rsquo;\u00e9tait pas digne de d\u00e9lier la courroie des souliers. A droite, le monde c\u00e9leste et ang\u00e9lique, les trois anges aux mains voil\u00e9es en signe d&rsquo;adoration. Au milieu, enfin, le Christ, qui, d&rsquo;un geste, b\u00e9nit l&rsquo;univers aquatique, au point de croisement, sur un plan horizontal, des mondes humain et ang\u00e9lique, et, vertical, du ciel, de la terre et de l&rsquo;enfer.
